NowMD System Requirements

NowMD is designed to work well in a variety of office sizes. System requirements for a small one or two computer system are very modest. NowMD can be easily scaled up for larger installations with dozens of users, support for remote workers and more.

Computers and Operating Systems

NowMD will work on just about any Windows computer but you’ll be happier with a computer with a current multi-core processor and at least 4 gigabytes of RAM.

Supported operating systems:

Windows XP is not supported. April 8, 2014 was the end of the Windows XP Extended Support period. After this date Windows XP is no longer HIPAA Compliant nor does it meet the PCI credit card data security standards.

  • Windows Vista Home Premium, Vista Business and Vista Ultimate
  • Windows 7 Home Premium, 7 Professional and 7 Ultimate, 32 or 64 Bit
  • Windows 8, 8 Pro and 8 Enterprise, 32 or 64 Bit
  • Windows 10 Home, Pro, Enterprise and Education editions, 32 or 64 Bit

Computer Displays and Display Resolution

NowMD benefits dramatically from more screen real estate – The bigger the better! Screen resolution of 1366 X 768 is the minimum recommended resolution.

Multiple Users and Network Operation

NowMD is client/server application software that runs on one computer or on multiple computers on a network.

In a multiple user installation NowMD Database Server software runs on one computer on a network. The database server manages all NowMD data for all users on the network. The database server software should run on the fastest computer on the network for best performance. NowMD Client Software is used for billing, appointment scheduling and the other work you do with NowMD. In smaller installations the database server software can run on a client computer. In larger installations a dedicated server computer running a Windows Server operating system will work best.

The number of total network users that can connect to a computer running NowMD Database Server software is controlled by the host computer’s operating system. Below are the maximum number of inbound connections allowed on each version of Windows:

  • Windows Vista Home Premium – 10
  • Windows Vista Business – 10
  • Windows Vista Ultimate – 10
  • Windows 7 Home Premium – 10
  • Windows 7 Professional – 10
  • Windows 7 Ultimate – 10
  • Windows 8 – 5
  • Windows 8 Pro – 10
  • Windows 8 Enterprise – 10
  • Windows 10 Home – 5
  • Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise and Education – 10

Wired networks are recommended because they are faster, safer and more reliable than wireless networks.

Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Server)

NowMD is fully supported on Remote Desktop Services (also known as Terminal Services) on Windows Server operating systems. Server 2008 and Server 2012 are supported. Server 2008 is recommended because it does not require two computers to run the server and remote desktop services.

Report Printers

Laser printers are recommended for all NowMD reports, particularly for insurance claim printing. Laser printers are faster, easier to configure for insurance claims and have far lower supply costs when compared to ink jet printers.

NowMD supports all Windows-compatible printers, both monochrome and color.

Label Printers

NowMD includes Quick Print reports designed for the Dymo LabelWriter line of label printers.

Patient ID Card Scanning

ID card scanning requires a DYMO CardScan Image Capture (model 1812034) scanner. Feed the card into the scanner, flip the card over, and feed it through again to capture both the front and back of the card.

ID card scanning may also work on standard flatbed scanners. Your experience may be affected by a scanner’s included software. Try your scanner with NowMD to verify that it works as you expect it to.
